The South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD) governing board voted today to approve new rules that aim to reduce air pollution from refineries and related facilities by approximately eight tons per day. One of the most restrictive regulations in the country, the new rules are expected to prevent nearly 400 premature deaths in the next 15 years and is an important step towards the goal of net zero emissions.
South Coast AQMD is the regulatory agency responsible for improving air quality for large areas of Los Angeles, Orange County, Riverside and San Bernardino counties, including the Coachella Valley.
